Moving!

Today was definitely a better day for progress with 13knots of wind from the north east pushing us along nicely. But if anything, it's been pretty quiet day out here again, just a lot of sparkling blue water and blue sky.

I was kept busy last night avoiding a bit of shipping and adjusting the Fleming windvane when the wind dropped right out. It was so quiet and flat for while that I brought my pillow out into the cockpit and grabbed a few cat naps of sleep under the stars.

It already feels like I'm settling right into a routine, grabbing a bit of sleep through the night and into the morning when I can, logging and plotting my position, digging through the food bags for meals and calling in for phone skeds twice a day. There's always something to do or check.

I've been hard at work eating my way through all the last minute presents and sweets that were shoved aboard just before we left. Every time I think I've eaten them all I seem to discover another packet stashed away somewhere!

Thanks for all the comments.

Jessica

Hi there Jessica

Just wanted to wish you well on your journey – like so many others, I will be following your trip with great interest. I am so impressed with you. You are an exceptional young woman and a wonderful role model for the rest of us in having the courage and the commitment to risk all for the chance to realise your dream. You have many challenges ahead of you - stay safe and stay strong, attitude is everything. Enjoy the good times and if you are having a bad day cheer yourself up with the thought that someone, somewhere, will be thinking of you at that moment just as I am thinking of you right now. You have many supporters around the world - complete strangers, like me, who have taken you into their hearts and are willing you on to succeed. So take strength from that when you need it - if good will alone can get you home Jess, you are half way there already!

Hey, I'm Dagmara. Polish girl living in Norway. I read notice about you in "world news" few days ago and since then I started following your blog. You must be amazing and breave young woman - even if you are not yet sure about it maybe. I keep fingers across for you. I'm quite sure you know what you doing and you're well prepared, just hope managing just with yourself 24/7 will never push you to drop your plans. Lonelyness and longing take as motivation. All the best!

Thanks for taking the time for the sailing updates. Here I sit in America, north of San Francisco, taking in your sites! What a lazy deal for us. My wife and I and our dear friends have sailed throughout the Caribbean waters, have visited Australia and love the sense of adventure. You have all that packaged up in your trip.
We look forward to "travelling along" with you.

Best,

As I sit here at my desk, reading your blog, green with envy, I think back to my days at 16 (I'm rather old now at 47). All I cared about was m&m candies, dr. pepper, computers and taco bell. I never had your courage and tenacity. We (myself and all your faithful followers) look forward to your journey. There is a quote from Mark Twain on your site, it caught my attention. I've had it in my email sig line for 6 months now. It's very cool. I'm going to add the quote from you to my sig line! (below) Best Wishes! Mark Miller, Redwood City, California

hey Jessica , nice to read that you´re feeling good by sailing through what we could name " the real paradise". Enjoy all these wunderful conditions you´ve in the moment. Dont forget to save some of the sweets for a later moment.

Hi Jesse,

blue sea and blue sky, that would be just the things I need. Here in freezing Germany we already had the first snow on the ground.
Sleeping under the stars out in the sea must be one of the things you will never forget. I rember the beautiful southern hemisphere sky from my year in South Africa. Hope the weather holds up for a while. Shouldn't you save some of the sweets?
Greetings from icy Germany

You know Jesse, I can hardly read or write now- in fact I am only learning to talk. They say you got to be in the school, in the first place, to be able to read or write. And that you got be at lease 4 years old to be in the school. That's why I asked my Dad to say 'Hi!' to you.

Are you going to be taking/posting pics on the site? Never having been to parts of the world you'll soon know it'd be great to see what you're seeing.

We are a class of fourth graders in Edwards, Colorado. We live close to Vail which is a famous ski resort. We are in the middle of the Rocky Mountains. Therefore, we don't know a lot about sailing. We have a couple of questions for you. Why aren't you in school? What is a phone sked? What has inspired you to do this? Why is your boat called Ella's Pink Lady?
