Hey there Jess, I hope you're well.
I just got home from work to find I have 895 comments to read! I'm glad I don't have an early shift tomorrow 'cause I'll be here all night and likely, all of tomorrow morning as well. I haven't started reading yet 'cause I want to get this comment down while it's fresh in my mind and unadulterated.
It was both gut wrenching and heart warming watching your latest two videos just now. I don't know when I've ever experienced such depth of emotion more. Watching you being stuck for words as you took in the sight of the land that is Cape Horn and getting all choked up completely blew me away. That precise moment right there is one you will never forget. You have carved your name into our history books and you will be read and talked about long after you and your great grandchildren have gone to heaven. That is just awesome beyond words. Carpe Diem!!! Every moment of every day, Carpe Diem!
Hugs, kisses and best wishes to you, Ella's Pink Lady and your entire support team. Respectfully yours...Sam XX

Hi Jesse,
I must comment on what a great photograph you took of yourself. Perhaps it is the wind or the mist, but you have such a dreamy, far-away look in your eyes, and a serene smile. Meanwhile, over your shoulder we see nothing but a gray sky and gray water. And there you sit, with what looks to be a glow on your face. This picture strikes me more as art than an entry in a blog.

Captain Jessica Watson
Explorer & Dreamer of Great Dreams

My Dear Captain Jesse,

Your pictures say so much. Your acheivement is clear, as is the courage and strength of purpose that made it so. Your life now and your life to come will serve as an inspiration to people of all ages all over the world.

Your last photo, your portrait, is mystical. Looking into your eyes one can almost see your sense of peace, your sense of being where you belong. But there is more. A hint of the rare spirit and goodness that has enchanted us all. What wonderful fun it will be to follow your life as you go on to acheive things beyond our imagination.

Tears, smiles and a grand salute to you Captain Jesse on conquering Cape Horn.

Genesis 1:10
God called the dry ground "land," and the gathered waters he called "seas." And God saw that it was good.

Good morning, Jesse! Those pics and your earlier comments, written in anticipation, about not seeing any land for so long only make me think of this verse. So desolate, so mysterious, makes me think about the time of the creation for some reason. Despite your adventure and great experience, your excitement reminds me that the land is indeed good. Thank you again for sharing this whole experience and your emotion with us. Today I am praying for you and your family, and I am praying that you will get rest and stay well. I am also praying for EPL and all of her equipment as the second half lays ahead of you. May God richly encourage you and continue to care for you as you press on. Draw near to Him, and be thankful to Him at this milestone. You're the best!

Hi Jesse awake in the middle of the night so thought I'd drop you a line. Finally found my posts on the "rounding the cape" blog that I thought were lost, there were so many just took ages to approve them all.

I'm so pleased I've been with you from the beginning.Although I was never one of the naysayers must admit my heart was in my mouth a little for your safety at this great adevnture across such vast amounts of water , but you have shown just how mature, competent and intelligent you are.

Love you sweetie , and all that you are doing. I'll post the big article from the Adelaide Advertiser to 5 Oceans Media so you have it for your scrap book or whatever you are using for your mementos......Meleese x

Hi Jessica,
I and many others are totaly in awe of you! Gosh, when you think of all the mariner's before you, you have entered into history just as they have. I loved Bluefin's blog this morning...

FROM Bluefin:
Very cool hey? What would those tough tall ship men think if they knew a 16 year old girl sailed around Cape Horn solo and unassisted! Not to mention your whole trip. That would certainly "Smite them dumb!" LOL

I would like to add to that, "in a 34' PINK sloop rigged sailboat"!!

Can you just imagine the look on Sir Frances Drakes's face and that of his men looking down and seeing Jessica sail on by in Ella's Pink Lady?! I love it!

Thank you Bluefin for initiating my mind to wander awhile!

Thank you Jessica for the wonderful adventure.
God's peace, blessings and love to you.

I really like the first photo of EPL making her way through the ocean, and thanks for showing us the cape Jessica.
Wow almost halfway already, all downhill now, look out Sydney here she comes ^-^

PS, there is a japanese guy named Minoru Saito leaving Punta Arenas in a day or so has gone round 7 times, he's now on his 8th, and going the wrong way, very nearly came to grief rounding the cape. Seems to be quite a character.
He's an older guy in his 70s, the oldest solo round the world sailer in actul fact.

PSS, No young lady you don't have to match his record, unless you want to that is ;)

Jessica,

I've been following your blog from day 1, but haven't posted before. I just want to say congratulations on passing this major milestone. There's a lot of sailing left, of course, but you've proved yourself to be a remarkable sailor, a keen observer and a powerfully evocative writer. Bravo.

As someone who also grew up sailing and reading accounts of solo circumnavigations but who never took that plunge, I have an inkling of what an extraordinary feeling it must have been to see the Cape looming up out of the mist like that. Truly a haunted, mythic place. You joined a pretty elite club with that sight.

All the best for the rest of your voyage.

You are so beloved, Jess.

(I composed another posting and promptly lost it. You may read this twice but no matter):

Thank you for etching your experience into the gold of a lifetime and for sharing it with us in our home ports.

I loved hearing your words stop, while you were talking to us from inside the cabin. You let the moment really sink in, and then, "Wow" was uttered. Yeah, what an amazing moment of recognition. There's nothing like communicating something out loud to get the awareness of a reality check settling in, completely!!

WOOT!! WOOT!!

With deep oceanic currents of love surrounding you always and with continued SAFE SAILING!!

The pics of the cape are awesome! You rounded the cape exactly the way it should be rounded--in a 40 knot wind. Somehow rounding Cape Horn in blue bird weather just doesn't seem right. The way it looks how your sail was set, the wind was from behind you, pushing you through the passage. You must have been flying!

Hi Jessica,
I just finished watching your last two (2) video’s, again, and I couldn’t help but shed a tear at your genuine happiness and excitement. What a girl. It’s amazing what you have accomplished. You did work hard for it, and you continue to do so. As I have said before, don’t get complacent now, be cautious and please don’t take any chances, no matter how minor they may seem, you can’t get that moment back. I know nag, nag, nag. Only because we love you and want you safely back home. Plus I’m a Jessaholic worrier. LOL…..

The Lovells Nelson NZ:
Thank you for your kind words and I couldn’t be happier for this young lady. What a simply fantastic feat for her to accomplish. I’m very proud of her.
Read a post by Barry Clements in regards to Don McIntyre’s talk on the Today show about you. It was fantastic. Wish we could see some of these video’s up here in WV. (USA)
For Only by His Grace:
Doug and Marion: Happy Birthday Doug, I had hoped Jessica would pass the Cape on the 11th, (my b’day) but I’m glad to see you have a double celebration for that day now. Good on ya.

Jessica, you seemed to be momentarily lost for words as you were explaining about the cape. But you recovered nicely, wow.
Congratulations to another milestone in your journey. Well done! Thanks so much for the pics and video‘s. I feel as though I'm there with you, especially when you explain that particular moment.

I believe that I may have said this before but I’ll repeat myself.
No one will ever pass your record regardless of their age or speed in getting around the world, because, you have made an impact on the world that no one will ever match. It wasn’t just your sailing skills or your courage, it was YOU. Your attitude, tenacity, honesty and your casual manner in speaking, not putting on airs and just being yourself.

For Billie & Tom: I’ll bet you were beside yourselves with joy, pride and happiness when Jessica made the big move around Cape Horn. I was thinking of her family and how they would all react. God Bless you all for having such a wonderful and precious Granddaughter.

Well Jessica, naturally I’m looking forward to your next blog, and I hope everything goes well for you on the rest of your trip. Hope them scallywags are behaving. You keep them in line. Eat well and drink, drink, drink!!!!
So very proud of you, keep up the good work.
Loads of love and hugs, your faithful friend, fan and follower.
May God be with you and watch over you and may the angels keep your sails full, and I, I will keep you in my prayers.
Michael (75) from Kingwood, WV

Hi Jesse. Our kids are obsessively watching your journey and are intrigued by the whole adventure. (As are we all!) We've just had a 'light bulb' moment with our 8 y.o. though. I won't bore you with the details, but suffice to say, he now understands that 'sailing all the way around the world' means doing a LAP - not covering EVERY square inch of ocean. Our conversations about your journey are now much more inteligble, particularly when looking at the voyage map! And that's just one of the many lessons the kids are getting from watching what you're doing. Congratulations for everything you've achieved so far, and we're really looking forward to the rest of the ride home with you!

533 comments to date. Jessica, that's a tremendous following. Thanks for the photos of the Cape because I'll never see this view of the Cape unless I go to Antarctica. Absolutely wonderful and you look so in command. Well done. When you have time could you let me know something I was thinking about please. How do you get your sleep? Is it in batches, or for a long period. Do you set your watch to wake up or just let the ocean dictate? During the daytime or only at night? Just going to sleep myself last night and I wondered what lone sailors would do. Again, happy sailing. Cheers, Erica from Brisbane

Very nice picutres, jesse! How sweet that even when you're howling along with 40kn winds to contend with, that you thought of us and took a few shots; especially the one of yourself braving that cold! You look fabulous! (Trust me, a portrait of me in those conditions would only show up in a horror flick!) It can't be simple setting that camera up and getting yourself in the picture with all that rocking going on! I realize that you may have it on wide angle and then crop out the extraneous stuff, but what do you secure that camera *to* for those great self portraits, anyway?
I love the cape shots too --I agree with your comment on it's looking mythical (and I'll add mystical) in all that mist. How cold do you think it is there? Does the mist ever look (feel) like ice, or maybe its helping keep the temperatures from getting thatlow. (?)
So what's our next waypoint?
Blessings and congratulations again!
Tracie

I love your video of Cape Horn, the weather was perfect for maximum enjoyment, it makes you feel alive, whereas blue skies and a calm ocean is quite boring especially for the Cape.

Jessica,

Sir Knox-Johnston, the first person to sail single handed and non-stop around the world between 14th June 1968 and 22nd April 1969 says only 'proper sailors' sail the Horn. So now consider yourself a 'Proper Sailor', but we admirers knew that all along.

40kt winds, no wonder you did around 180 miles between blogs the other day!

Now get thee northward and thaw out that cute nose of yours. One down two more big capes to go.

Wishing you fair winds to take you northerly,

Steve from SCaliforia (a high of 74F (23C) today)

We are going to need to hear all the details of your rounding the Cape--when you have time. After a nice couple of naps, I would imagine. Did you zip around that little hook at the east of the Cape and find some calm water to catch your breath? I hope so.
From the weather on passageweather.com it looks like you just beat it around the Horn before some even nastier weather.
Whew. Proud as punch for you.

Hey Jessica, all seems to have gone quite about the lasiest member of the crew. the heater or as someone called it "Heather" (heat her).

I'm assuming that with the events of the last couple of days and the adrenaline that's flowing in you there is no time to even consider the temperature.

I had a look at the passage weather website and it looks like you are very busy now (9am Fri)giving Parker a hand with the big seas and not the wind speed to match it.

I hope you are still on your high from rounding the cape and having your parents near by because you truely deserve and have earned the exciting set of emotions your having.

What a rush to your system the last 48 hours must have been for you and I am so happy it's all worked so well for you.

Who would have thought you would have been sailing through the worst bit of ocean in the World and the place with the most superstition attached to it on the 13th of the Month.

Did you make an offering to the sea and the souls who lay there as you passed through the passage.

I'll let you get back on the job with Parker because he's probably needing a bit of rest after helping you make history and the next few days he's going to be working hard as well.

Congratulations and looking forward to some more of your fantastic blogs, photos and videos.

Cheers from Barry

Jess,
I've been following you from the beginning, but haven't posted until now. Couldn't let this moment go by without expressing my admiration of your enterprising spirit and determination.
These latest pictures of Cape Horn are striking and you used the right word: "mythical".
The picture of you, however, tops them all. I've been staring at it trying to find the right adjective to describe what I see, but it expresses so many emotions: pensive, dreamy, loving, satisfaction, determination.....
Anyway I think it's a picture of a lifetime and that moment will be hard if not impossible to relive.
A hearty VERY WELL DONE from a kindred sailor.

Hi Jesse,
I must comment on what a great photograph you took of yourself.
