You're a great lass Jessica! It's incredible to be able to see and hear your story... it's as though we are with you in person. You're doing an amazing job out there. Did you get to see your Mum and Dad... and the Navy ships? It makes my eyes moist to read about how they were going to come out to wave you on your journey. I hope they succeeded in this. I guess you'll be heading back up to warmer climates... and you're on the homeward run now. You're a beautiful example of what the youth today should be. Take heed Australia and New Zealand... Hi Jessica,
Are you having a good time, I shouldn’t even ask should I? Yes????
I read in the courier mail.com.au paper, that the website crashed this am (Fri. 15th). There just letting posts thru in groups of five (5) and less. It must be bad.
So many new people trying to congratulate you. Us loyal folk can’t get a word in edgewise. LOL…. I’m glad to see that though. I wonder how many of them are converts.
I figured it would have crashed before this.
Abby has had another delay and won’t be leaving on Saturday. She didn’t say when. There’s another girl (Abby North) supposedly coming out of Vancouver, B.C., but I can’t find any information on her. She’s supposedly sailing a 40 footer.
I’ve been entertaining myself watching your video’s, never gets boring, and it seems that I notice something new each time I watch them. Nice hair do. I like to listen to your little giggle and see the awe and excitement on your face. WOW…..LOL….

For Joni, Vero Beach, Fl:
Can you give us any info on websites for Abby North, Jeanne Synereida, and Ryan Langley???? I’d appreciate that.

Hey SaltyDog:
In my last post I mentioned a fellow who’s birthday was the day that Jessica sailed around the Horn, he was 71. Doug….Only by His Grace .

Well Jessica, In my unprofessional observations, it looks like you should be in for some smooth sailing for the next week or so, I repeat, in my unprofessional observations. LOL……
Keep enjoying yourself and stay safe.
Loads of love and hugs, your faithful friend, fan and follower.
May God be with you and watch over you and may the angels keep your sails full, and I, I will keep you in my prayers.

Howdy Jessica
We moved the pinpoint dot on our golden globe to your location under Cape Horn.
Loved your video showing the ocean with all the action kicking about your sailboat. You sound happy Jessica!
Knowing how the ocean really is when it is rough while aboard a boat and seeing what the camera shows us on your video we can not fully realize all that power that surrounds you.

All the folks at Bonnies Diner here in Maine are rooting for you.

I always tell my daughters out in Colorado to look up at the stars when they miss me. I do the same thing when I'm missing on them.
Next time I look up I will think of you standing on your deck gazzing at the stars with the knowledge of someone in Maine sends you a little love on your solo journey. Jude & Mo

Hello Captain Jessica,

The video you shot below deck entitled "Jessica Watson rounds Cape Horn" is PRICELESS... in real time it captures YOUR moment in sailing history..."amazing"... "this is it"..."wow"....you have just championed leg two and the cape...we get to share the real emotion of that moment....we understand now what this all means to you....and that it's all been worth the preparation, being away from home, combating fears and being on your own.

I want to give a special "shout out" to ANDREW for keeping this blog site together the last few days. Dealing with the overwhelming number of comments, reporting the latest news, the addition of new photos and then video over a short period of time knowing that everyone has been waiting for news of the rounding ...all appeared seamless. Great job Andrew.

I hope mom and dad had a great trip.

Yes, special kudos to Andrew. This must be an awesome job to put it all online!

Hi Jessica
I’ve now read through the comments made in reply to your “Pictures of the Cape” report. A number of people commented specifically on the photo of you in that series and the comment that stood out to me was that by Georgia Guy, who wrote about you having the look of “steely determination and a look of almost serene contentment in where you were and what you were doing at that moment”.
To me that comment describes what I too see in that and a number of other photos, and I also see and sense in your two videos what I would describe as your complete ‘oneness’ with Ella’s Pink Lady and of you being very much in rhythm with Ella’s Pink Lady and the rhythm of the sea conditions at the time. I guess that comes from your own very positive confidence in what you are doing so I would like to add the look of confidence to Georgia’s statement.

Enjoy the Atlantic, and please have another go at videoing the flight of an Albatross. It would be great to see an Albatross complete a full revolution of its circular flight path. Now, that’s a challenge for you when you next get steady wind, unbroken swell and a co-operative Albatross. I hope that is possible!

The Horn

56 degrees south
Almost mythical you say
Well just as mythical
Is the just-sixteen sailor-lady
Who plies her fearless way
Through roaring forties
Furious fifties
Or whatever else
The great King Neptune
Chooses to employ
To test, as test he does!
Rounding that notorious cape
Taxes seasoned sailors all
Their courage and best seamanship
Yet here she is
With eyes and smile
That bespeak a dream
Already made true
The youngest circumnavigator
To conquer
Independently
Ever so graciously
Yea, in legendary style
That prize of all sailor’s prizes
The Horn!

3 cheers for you Jess!!

Thanks for taking those amazing videos. Your personality and excitement really come through! On the first video “ Land Ho” I can see the island at 51 seconds by stopping the video. I love how you talk to the sea, your constant companion through all these months. “ Come on swell, let the people see the island so they can share my excitement!”.

The “Rounding Cape Horn” video is outstanding as well. By watching your face, a person can actually watch your expression change as the implications of what you have done sink in. You have accomplished a great feat with grace and humility. You have shown that through hard work and perseverance dreams can come true!

I haven't commented yet, but I check your blog everyday- I am from Chicago in the United States- I have nothing but admiration for your ambition and skill. I just started sailing on the great lakes last summer, so I have some idea of what it takes to do what you are doing (not much of an idea- I have never even spent the night on a boat! But still, I have some frame of reference). You are an inspiration- keep it up! I look forward to reading your blog everyday.

Hi Jessica,
The Daily Telegraph (Australia) had some awesome pictures of your Mum and Dad on land and in the plane with a couple shots of you in your boat. Great coverage.

For Mum and Dad:
Congratulations on raising such a beautiful, intelligent and courageous daughter. Jessica is definitely one of a kind, I’ve really enjoyed following her in her travels. She makes you feel like you’re right there with her. I know your both extremely proud of her, and love her very much, and rightly so. She’s a joy.
I hope you had a nice trip down to the Cape to see her, and that you were able to see her well. Lord, save the pictures. LOL……
Thanks for everything and have a safe trip home.

For Jonathan@Tooradin: I sent you an E-mail but it came back with a failure notice. ???

At this point there’s 919 posts. Fantastic!!!!!!!
Always thinking of you, and always proud of you.
Keep enjoying yourself and stay safe.

Dear Jessica,

As you are inspiring the whole world with your captivating journey into the salty history books of High Seas Sailing Solo-ness, something strange is happening. Your powers of inspiration have reached this tiny outpost in the outback desert regions of Western Australian, which I call home. The alluring call to the wild side of a life of a Solo Something Explorer has reached my dry desert dwelling, ex boilermakers, industrial deaf ears. There is at present an exhilarating power of possibility surging through my cholesterol encrusted veins, as I plead with the fickle father of fate, that there may be one last quest for me - in this my life of Desert-ness. I begin to beat my breast at the possibility of one last Quest as I am in the twinkling twilight of my tinkering around the shed days. I begin to think why not me, It can be Done, I want to go out with a bang... not just rust in the dust.

Somebody Stop Me!!!, Now I'm excited, I am now exploding with Hope. But alas, what Solo quest should I set out on ... I can not swim or sail, anyway I would not even contemplate the idea of competing with a master of the sea such as our Jesse. I must think, brainstorm, brainstorm, that is hard with only one brain, and one that has been exiled for three years to this Rabbit Proof Fenced in-humane warren of woe. The inspiration will not leave me, it is now combining with a raw mix of perspiration, (could be that it is 47 deg outside) as my whole body is entering into a unknown land..... I keep walking towards this new light ... it's called LIFE .. Its called Risk ... its called Hope.... and then I see a banner emblazoned on the illuminated horizon with the words of a Johnny Cash Song
"IF YOU DON'T TAKE A CHANCE, THE ANGELS WONT DANCE". And I say Alleluia, YES THATS ME, I WANT TO DANCE, I WANT TO DANCE, I WILL GO, but where ..................

And then there before me is a door, momentarily I hesitate, and then in a leap of desperate faith I fling the door open and the voice is as clear as the morning light on a desert day:

" CLOSE THE BLOODY DOOR, YOU'RE LETTING ALL THE STINKING FLIES IN "

It was MY WIFE ...................

"IT WAS JUST A MIRAGE", .... " I WAS ONLY DREAMING" .................................

Peace, Strength and Love to you.

Hi Jessica.
Congratulations, congratulations! Well done job rounding the Cape Horn.

This is first time I am writing at your blog, but I am every day following your great voyage around the world, since you leaved Sydney. I love to read the daily report about the life onboard Ella’s Pink Lady. I think it is amazing that a young girl – only 16 years (just a few years older than my grandchild) – is sailing solo around the world non-stop and unassisted. I is fantastic! You are a great model for all young people, when you show what is possible to do if you are committed to realize your dreams.

You show us via your website what it really means to do such a special circumnavigation nowadays. As you probably know was Joshua Slocum the first man ever to sail alone around the world. That was in the years 1895-1898. Some years ago I read his fascinating book “Sailing alone around the world”, and when I heard about your circumnavigation he was the first person that came into my thoughts, well knowing that his and yours conditions are truly different. But I think some experiences or elements of his and your voyage basically must be the same.

I wish that all your dreams about the circumnavigation will come true.
I wish that you can cope with all the challenges on your voyage.
Take care of yourself.
Best regard from
