Hey Jess,

Great achievement, great pictures! Again, congratulations on passing this milestone, now onto some more challenging sailing.

I can only say again that you are just an awesome inspiration and role model. Believing in yourself and in your abilities to achieve your goals, and then actually doing it!

The attitudes that you have been raised on must be a tremendous contributing factor in your life and I can only say "well done" to your parents. You are a crown on their heads.

Jess, I wish you safe sailing especially on the next leg of this incredible journey.

I continue to pray for your well being, Gid bless.

Keep safe.

Hi Jess,
First time I've written but have followed your blog and story for some time and want to say what a fantastic adventure you are having, and wish I was you sailing. Going around the Horn is a big deal and I wondered whether the Panama Canal would've been an option? Or not? I'm sure the upstairs dude will watch over you and keep you safe. Love your blog and esp the photos. Keep enjoying the experience you're engaged in.

Okay, that does it; tomorrow, I'm going to a National Geographic (US) warehouse sale in Washington, DC and purchasing a great big globe to follow you and EPL :-) Flat maps are, well, flat.

Will you have a camera rigged so you can round the Horn, remain aboard, navigate, keep the mast pointing (relatively) skyward, stay dry, warm, eat, etc. and take photos for us (and your grandchildren) simultaneously? (Your inspiring picture November 17, starboard tack, looking forward suggests big things to come down south.)

What do you anticipate will degrade your hull performance most, flora, fauna or paint loss?

Thank you for being Jessica Watson, intrepid sailor!

Chocolate is a good idea to put a bit of padding on for the hard journey south. How about using that melted chocolate by making florentines! Could be entertaining and yum! Also when you make your bread have you tried putting in dried fruit and nuts to make it more interesting. I use to do this on our sailing trips and it was very delicious with butter!
You are doing brilliantly.

Hi Jesse

GREAT VIDEO of your celebratory dunk. You must feel good about all the global feedback about you being so mature, courageous and inspirational. And I agree with all that. But I'm also kind of hoping you will always hang on to that playful girlie spirit, such as enjoying the pink toe-nails, calling your companion "silly" as (s)he listened to your views about fashion and boys, and having a good giggle when you had your celebratory dunk. Your playful spirit provides a nice balance to your other admiral qualities and I hope it will always shine through as part of your personality.

Enjoy the northern hemisphere while it lasts.

Hi, Jessica,

Congratulations! Well done!

Thanks for the photos. Yesterday a commenter referred to your dry sense of humor (which is probably the only thing you can keep dry out there) and "Untangling it from the keel" is certainly an example.

Thanks for the two videos also. I was interested to see that you did go ahead and do the salt water dunk (in addition to the dessert ritual). Looking at the photos, did you change clothes first? Were those the clothes you were most willing to get soaked?

I've looked ahead (a bad habit of mine; I should savor the present) at the next leg of your journey. I'd say from the Line to Cape Horn is about half again as far as you've already come? A month-and-a-half trip? Apparently for the first half of that leg, the prevailing winds are against you? Will you have to tack the entire way? (Will that make it a two-month trip, instead?) I guess out in the open ocean, you can make very long tacks if you want -- perhaps come about only once a day? After that, the winds come around to your back; looks like you might be sailing before the wind -- which, as I understand things, isn't as fast as sailing across the wind, but seems simpler.

You appear to be almost even with Kiribati now; time to make the big turn and head south. I wish you the best luck in the world.

Hi Jessica,
I had said in a previous blog that you had 200 hits with more coming…..you’re over 550 hits so far…So tell me precious lady “WHO LOVES YA”……THE WHOLE WORLD LOVES YA!!!!!!! You are just to fantastic. But I must say this: Now that you have stumbled into the line and got it hung up on your keel there should be no excuse for you to do that again when you cross it coming south. Be alert and stay sharp. LOL…… I have really enjoyed reading all the blogs from all over the world. I would venture to say that you have won the hearts of many young men, and some not so young. LOL…. If this is the response you get for crossing the Equator, you had better stand by for the reception you get when you pull back into Sydney. It’s simply amazing the amount of support you have. I love it.
I was able to watch your tour of the galley, and the initiation dunking and I enjoyed it very much, but I wasn’t able to watch the interview. The message was that it wasn’t available in my region. Maybe I’ll be able to get it on You Tube. By the way, how’s your thumb?
Take care of yourself and EPL, be safe and stay alert….always thinking of you.
May God be with you and watch over you and may the angels keep your sails full. I will keep you in my prayers.

Congratulations Jess! So very happy for you. Keep the pics comin'. Few questions if you don't mind, I'm just curious, firstly, what do you do with your rubbish? I'm sure you don't have a lot but wondered if you need to compact it or something. Secondly, do you ever feel any 'bumps', like something hitting the bottom of EPL? Especially at night? I'm still trying to comprehend what it must be like out in the middle of the ocean, alone, at night, especially if there's not much wind & your kinda just floating along quietly. Lastly, do you ever see any airplanes?

Come on, who else was looking for a fishing line in the first pic ?, I got real close to the screen looking for it and thinking how good it's going to be reading how Jesse managed to untangle the line off the keel and reel in her FIRST FISH. And whaddya know....all it was was crossing the equator..what a let down

Hi Jessica
Your photos do tell the story. Glad to hear your sense of humour about untangling the Line, your description of how you initiated yourself in traditional manner with a bucket of salt water, and how you celebrated the milestone.

By now I expect you are nearing Kiribati and the journey southwards with the Sun behind you. Stay alert, especially in the vicinity of the islands, and enjoy the ride “downhill” to the Horn. We all look forward to hearing from you when you have passed Kiribati.
