Moving!

Today was definitely a better day for progress with 13knots of wind from the north east pushing us along nicely. But if anything, it's been pretty quiet day out here again, just a lot of sparkling blue water and blue sky.

I was kept busy last night avoiding a bit of shipping and adjusting the Fleming windvane when the wind dropped right out. It was so quiet and flat for while that I brought my pillow out into the cockpit and grabbed a few cat naps of sleep under the stars.

It already feels like I'm settling right into a routine, grabbing a bit of sleep through the night and into the morning when I can, logging and plotting my position, digging through the food bags for meals and calling in for phone skeds twice a day. There's always something to do or check.

I've been hard at work eating my way through all the last minute presents and sweets that were shoved aboard just before we left. Every time I think I've eaten them all I seem to discover another packet stashed away somewhere!

Many people I know don't understand the spirit that yachties share and don't understand the call of the sea and adventure.

What happened to Shorty and Ditch was a tragedy but it just reinforces the will and courage of individuals like you to succeed.

What u are doing is great and envy u for having so much determination. Have recently returned to Australia after being overseas for 15 years and it's great to see the Aussie spirit in you!. I have an adv agency in Poland and we did an ad with one of the polish girls who did the same trip as u and she was amazing - however she had a few hurdles and spoke of her endeavours whilst at sea and it was totally full on! I can't seem to fatham the sleeping times as she said that she only slept for 20mins at a time? Is this true? How do you organise your sllep patterns and how do u copw with this?? And pardon my ignorance but waht are these 'skeds' u talk about?

It would be great to see your daily positions so we can all follow your progress. Schools may pick up on it and use your positions, curents, winds etc for educational purposes.
I sailed across the Atlantic with a few others many years ago and remember thinking at the time that I couldn't do it alone. Well done and best of luck.

that is great jess you are moving along so well now. I hope you continue to catch that wind and the progress remains smooth. I am sure if you ever got bored you can always read the blogs we are sending you that is quite a few books in its self. I would imagine even though you are out there alone with all the responses you receive you can always be assured someone is thinking or writing to you from one corner of the globe.

So did you take a finishing line with for some fresh seafood?

We know you are probably tired sometimes and sailing your little heart out, safely no doubt, but, keep us up-to-date more if you can. I check your blog throughout the day and funnily enough feel a bit disappointed when you haven't added something new. We know you cannot type every five minutes. It's just so exciting to find out what you are up to and where you are. Maybe for us who do not know anything about sailing, could you please use kilometres as an example of how far you are from land? LOL

Jessica, you go girl...I did Sydney to San Fransisco on my own (not non-stop though) so know what your going thru. Nice time of year to be off NSW..better than June when I went and gott my ass kicked on the second day out for the next four days..did Sydney Suva in 10 days..cleared in at Latoka !!!

A lot of people are pulling for you..just do your best...get into the passage routine, stick to it and the rest will be fine

Jessica you are one amazing person to go it alone! I am living vicariously through your blog! I sailed for a year on "Shanty" aka "Ella's Pink Lady" through the South Pacific Islands and she is an incredibly safe boat. (Especially after the modifications that have been made.)
