Thank You From Mum

Hi everyone. I know you are all anxious to hear from Jess, but she's a little pre-occupied on her first day, so just a quick post to let everyone know that the departure went well this morning, officially passing the start/finish line at Sydney Heads at 9.49am. On behalf of all of our family, I would like to sincerely thank all those wonderful people who came out on the Harbour this morning and down to the marina to wish Jess well. The positive messages of support from not only Australia, but all around the world, has just been overwhelming and we are most grateful. I am sure you will hear from Jess soon.

as a mum of 2 girls, i have to admit i was one of the many critics when i first heard of jessica watson last month. but having followed the daily media reports closely over the last month, like the rest of australia, i am now converted. wow! how incredible were those departure shots from sydney habour today? i had tears of joy. the way she has dealt with the intense media has been amazing for a 16 year old. no matter what happens from here, jessica watson is a role-model and inspiration to us all!

It was great to see the live coverage on channel 9 this morning of Jessica's departure. It is understandable that Jessica will be too busy at times to post here. Thank you for the post.My Daughters Birthdap is yoday and all she talked about was Jessica at her party.We kive on the NSW Central Coast and her party was at a park overlooking the ocean,Karla(daughter)was looking out to sea all day thinking she may sail up past,even though we told her shw would be going straight out to sea.Anyway good luck to Jess and your family for coping whilst she is away.You all have our families admiration.
We were actually on the Gold Coast whilst Jessica was there.
Will be reading each and every day,

Hi Jessica. I am a father of two and my youngest Jessica is now 25. I love the sea but have been away from it for many years. I have recently purchased a wooden boat for renovation. It has taken four years of my spear time to do the work and I am looking forward to the first voyage. Unlike yourself I think our first circumnavigation will be ninth island, just off the coast of northern Tasmania. Hi Julie I'm a Sydney mum of two daughters aged 19 and 21 -And I know how complicated it can get to support them when they make certain decisions in their lives that everyone else thinks that it was a wrong decision...
My prayers and thoughts are with Jessica and your family.. Stay strong and tell her that I will say a prayer for her everyday and every night and if she has a chance to read Psalm91... It was great to see Jessica sail through the heads and start today. Stay safe you dont have to prove a thing. Enjoy your trip. Come home when you want. Congrats to mum and dad..Handled 60 minutes concerns well. Its hard to let children live there dreams. I let my daughter follow her dreams and now she is a successful happy adult.

Jess, I took my 3 year old boy up to North Head to watch you sail out the heads. I explained to him what you were doing and how courageous you were, so stay safe and positive. I do hope that you wear your lifejacket and attach yourself to the boat at all times!!

It's not everyday that you get to meet a great adventurist! We consider ourselves amongst the lucky ones who have had the opportunity to do so on a few occasions, but our recent meeting with Jess, her family and friends will be our most memorable.

It seems that no matter what one does as a teenager and/or parent of a teenager these days, there will always be someone there to claim it's irresponsible.

It wasn't that long ago the world was happy to send its teenagers off to war to die for our right to choose the (legal) paths our lives take. As far as I know, no one has been prepared to call them or their parents irresponsible have they?

Obviously, Jessica isn't going off to save the free world, but if she inspires a few youngsters to go out and see what the real world is really like and not just rely on Google to show them, she will have done us all a great favour.... Read more

Jessica, I'm a 46 year old high school teacher from Stockholm and a sailing instructor during summers. My heart will follow you and your challenge around the world. It's a really tough one and I wish you all the best of luck and good conditions and support from above when needed. I think the best advice I can give from a distance is - do ask for help if you should really need it somewhere along the journey. Hopefully not, but don't let pride come into the thinking. You can't challenge the ocean with pride. So, from Sweden - me and my students your age will be following you - all the best! Peter

wow!! I just read about this brave girl in my Swedish newspaper. Myself was a really good and dedictaed sailer when I was young (I'm now 45...:-D ) and not in my wildest dreams would I come up with such "crazy" idea to sail around the world at an age of just 16, I had way yoo much respect for the water element!! Hi Jessica,

I heard about your trip for the first time today when I wachted your segment on 60 Minutes. As I was listening to you talk about what your voyage would entail, I was trully inspired to undertake a challenge of my own. Unlike you, my challenge will entail being on dry land but, like you I will be facing unimaginable fears as I make a stand for 'me'. I will be setting the same 200+ day period as you. I plan track your progress by reading-up on your experiences, and I am sure I will need to refer to your blogs for motivation to keep going on my journey.

Jessica, think not only of the brave and emancipating decision you've made for yourself but, also know that you have inspired people around the world to change, take risks, and learn more about this great thing called life.
