Love all the water ... daughter ... sorta!

In the latest news bulletin produced by your land crew appears the comment that you put up some sort of sail for heavy weather sailing. So many of us do not even know how to sail yet you can do out of the ordinary things like that and not turn a hair. Wonderful!

Your crew also advises that a low weather system is forming behind you. That will be exciting and should produce dramatic pictures. But hang on, sweetie, hang on!

Love and best wishes!

You look so well and relaxed. The longest ive been on a boat was 22 days between the Galapogas and Tahiti. When i got off i looked like a yeti!! U continue to amaze me. Again I cant wait to greet you when u sail thru the heads at sydney Harbour. I promise the "Pantomime" will be there to greet u.

Just awesome sunset, keep those pictures coming.
How cold is it now and how cold do you think it will get...makes those baths a little chilly.

Yep..you look like you're enjoying yourself..cute 'seat belt'. Is that grey one a platypus? I'll have to enlarge it and look a bit closer..I made out the Chicken..the grey bird, and a teddy,..
The sea does look calmer. Is the ride any smoother?

hi jesse
... enjoyed your latest pics. Glad to see your fast progress below the equator. Some of my sailor friends here in the US Gulf Coast are wondering how your vessel is holding up so far and what kind of unexpected boat problems are rearing-up and your solutions. Another intriquing question is how you are able to maintain your fresh water demands without re-supplying at port. Can you address these questions in one of your blogs?

Thanks for the pics Jess,

I've been reading up on your stuff..that Rutland Windgen looked pretty cool in your videos so as an electrician- I had to go check it out. I'm impressed! Not only cool lookin' but quiet operation and durable..Must sound like a commercial..but I really did go to your sponsors web site..
You've not complained about not having enough power in quite some time..
Your crew definitely rocks. Its' been rather damp here in Savannah today..enjoy the warmth while you have it Sunshine..hope you've got something to bundle up in as you drive south..Puts me in mind of 'New In Town' the Harry Conick Jr. Video with Renee Zellweiger..Ooh..now its coming down..guess I said too much..hard winter rain...good that I cancelled band practice..My drummers' music space is a corrigated sheet metal shed- and it leaks..nothin' like dodging rain drops with the old 12 string...
Well..Cruise on away from the sunset.. pressing toward the dawn. You'll be rounding the horn ..before you know..and then North again you'll go...

Tania Aebi'Maiden Voyage'."..with the heat and meager progress, averaging 50 miles a day our spirits took a severe beating and leathergy overcame every urge for action... As Varuna began to beat, I reassumed my favorite position standing at the spray hood and Tarzoon (her companion kitty) unaccoustomed to the heeling, poised himself to jump up and join me. I heard the familiar scritch of his nails on the fabric, looked around to cuddle my friend and I didn't see him. Alarmed I scanned the empty cockpit. Tarzoon had gone overboard!Looking back to the wake behind Varuna I caught sight of his little head, a picture of terror bobbing up and down in the waves. Screaming with a burst of adrenalin, I leapt to the Monitor, disengaged it, rounded up into the wind, and back winded the sails. Trying to keep my eyes on him, I pushed the tiller over so that Varuna would back down on the spot. Tarzoon swam frantically toward the boat as we drifted closer, I leaned over and scooped him up."..

See it does help to have a seatbelt! Keeps everyone onboard..

Another Jessica Poem

The Line

Frustrating yes, those winds close to South
Containing some strength, my desired direction’s mouth
I must just sail, that longitudinal line
The one that bends, around Island behinds

It seems I’m sailing, all but the right way
Almost as if Neptune, is leading me astray
But then I look, with an open young mind
The real course we’ve sailed, is not that unkind

Reefs and the hard bits, have all but been missed
Ella’s Pink Lady, clean water below hissed
Neptune himself, so proud of her ply
Is smiling for Jessica, our Apple of eye

"Another intriguing question is how you are able to maintain your fresh water demands without re-supplying at port. Can you address these questions in one of your blogs?"

.......the answer to that was mentioned elsewhere on Jess's site, perhaps one of her earlier blogs.
Rainwater is collected by various means each time it rains, it is collected via her sails [can't remember the exact method], and other ways.
If worse comes to worse she does carry stuff she can use to desalinate sea water. She washes with sea water, fresh water is really only for drinking and cooking with as far as I know.

Hope that answers any questions you had.

Greetings, Jess,

First, I want to thank RichieParis for researching the mailing address so we can send a worldwide deluge of greeting cards to Captain Watson, especially around the time of Christmas! Great going, Richie!

I also want to compliment the wealth of creative poetry and computer artwork (Sally!) that is so moving and beautiful throughout these blogs. One question, WHERE, OH,WHERE IS JESSICA'S JOKESTER, AL YER PAL???

Yeah, we're a family of sorts. We notice when one of us is missing.

Jessica, an ocean of congrats to you for your remarkable sailing achievements in such a short time.

On a side note, Google has pulled a fast one on me and has removed the capability of my computer (old, from 2001) to view the Voyage Map. Google's trying to get me to update my program but I can't do it with my current OS. Very annoying. I miss seeing the little pink boats on the map and applauding Jessica's progress. If anyone knows of another way I can view the map, please DO TELL.

With much love and wishes for your continued good progress and courage, Jess.

Hi, Jessica,

For some reason, today I'm suddenly impressed with the magnitude of what you're doing.

When I read the (positive, upbeat) news report on the site, the phrase I picked up on was "small leaks." I've never been on an ocean-going sailboat, but from the context I infer that "small leaks" are routine, and sealing them is normal maintenance. However, I was reminded of the joke about "minor surgery." "Minor surgery is surgery performed on someone else. If they're cutting into my personal body, it's major." Similarly, if I was alone on a boat 3,000 nm from the nearest major land, a small leak would be a leak in someone else's boat. If it's in my boat it's a big deal.

Then I looked at the first of your blog photos. You were focused on the lovely sunset. For some reason all I could see was the vast sea. I thought "She spends all her time a meter away from death." Sorry to be grim, but that's what I thought -- and I'm sure I'm not saying anything you didn't consider at length before you ever left. I was struck by how totally alone you are. I thought "Why does anyone ever want to do this in the first place?"

So today what strikes me is how very much sterner stuff you are made of than I am. You headed for a challenge when I would have backed away. I admire you greatly.

Best wishes,

Michael from Texas, USA

Hey Jess, I couldnt agree more with your shore team post
"The 6,000nm mark also means Jessica has completed over 25% of her 23,000nm voyage, as the ever-decreasing critics remain eerily silent! "
Yeah so true, havent heard any critics since your left, they must be busy munching on their humble pie.....
6000 nm Congratulations Jesse, quarter of the way through. Interesting reading that you and shore team been going thru checklists in prep for the southern ocean. You rock girl.... attention to detail second to none. Keep up your preparations - the more you do now, the less you will have to attend to later... Hope the crew going well today ;) and they dont eat you out of house and home !

Hows the food bag... do I hear a groan that you are getting to the dregs of the bag.... LOL
Have a great afternoon Captain Jesse. You are a champion !!

Hello Jesse "girman", Beverly here in Tassie. Just read "all" 244 comments. Usually takes me about 2 hrs to read through them but oh, so interesting. You have an amazing following. GlenF you are way too funny, and Happy Birthday Canadianguy. I feel like I know the bloggers after almost 2 mos of reading. Quite a tight-knit group of fans you have.

We just had a deck built on our house, took them 3-1/2 days and I thought, it would have taken me & hubby about a month to do. Today I put on a pair of pink trousers and just grabbed a pink t-shirt I bought in Hawaii, I told hubby I looked like EPL and thought about you all day long cause I looked like a big, pink boat!!!

Depression is getting a bit better. Maybe because of daylight savings time, more light, new deck to sit on instead of laying in bed 24/7 and God. He is the Master of all health. Prayer does definitely change things, not in "our" time but in His time.

Love the pics - but like a few of the bloggers said - I sure wouldn't be comfortable being totally surrounded by water, water, everywhere - and no land in sight. Nope, I'll just take my little boat out on the Derwent where the waves are just minute size compared to your pic today. Don't think I would be a good sailor at all.

Be good dear Jesse, clip-on always, be mindful of the moment and know that God is watching you and Angels are in your sails. Love the seat-belt for Teddy and Chick.

Oh, Oh, do you have a small Christmas Tree on-board for the holidays? I bet your Mom and crew have got gobs of pressies for you somewhere. But...no opening before Christmas Day no matter how tempting young lady.

Bye for now and God Bless You muchly - Beverly & Andrew Penney, Bridgewater, Tassie

Hi Jessica.
This is my first time looking at your blog. When you were first setting out here in Qld, I thought to myself. No way! This girl is too young, etc, etc, etc....but the more I learn & read about you...you're one amazing human being! Most people wouldn't have the guts to do what you're doing & the fact that you are handling everything so well. You are one tough girl! And the experiences you must be having. Incredible! Good luck with Cape Horn & it's wonderful that your Mum & Dad are going to be seeing you from the private jet. Congratulations & hope the rest of your journey is awesome!!
