Christmas in the Middle of Nowhere!

It's still been pretty foggy and gray out here but we've been able to make good progress with 15 knots of wind from the west. Both the air and sea temperatures have dropped a few more degrees and this morning we pretty much sailed right over Point Nemo, which is known for being the point of ocean furthest from any land. You really could say that I'll be spending Christmas in the middle of nowhere!

With pretty steady conditions and a reasonable forecast for the next few days I took the Christmas decorations in the cabin to the next level, there's now tinsel and little bauble-balls everywhere swinging in time to Ella's Pink Lady's motion.

Well that's it from me as it's getting late and I'd better get going to bed or Santa might catch me awake, I really hope he can find me out here!

Till tomorrow!

Jesse

Hi Jessica
I’ve just seen your Christmas Video Message. Thanks for your Christmas wishes to us. I’m glad you have Chocolate Mousse. I had a Choco Mousse last night having dinner with friends at a local restaurant.

By now you have no doubt had some of your long conversations on the Sat Phone. Enjoy the rest of your ‘White Christmas’ day.

Have to go now and visit family for Christmas dinner etc.

wishing you a wonderous christmas...this may prove to be your most memorable one...you have become a daily part of so many people's lives and your blogs and videos are something i look forward to...i feel, as others do, that i am sharing the journey with you...rock on girl....fair winds and smooth sailing...

Hi Jessica!
Thank you for the Christmas video. I loved it, and watched several times. Even if you are completely alone in the most isolated area on the planet (the South Pole area is much more crowded, and the space station astronauts are not alone), so do you not look like feeling alone. You have your nearest friend over the phone, and us over the blog! You look happy, and you look competely untouched by the rolling boat. The cabin is really beautifully decorated, may I guess more than any single-handed road-the-world boat ever!

Merry Chrstmas, and good trip!

Merry Christmas Jess, we're thinking of you. Even us cynical 36.9 year olds are inspired by what you've already achieved...yes 36.9 is officially middle age for a Sydneysider! Let's hope I can follow your example (albeit a bit late!) in 2010 and get closer to my dreams. Have fun, Alex

A few more lines to wish a special merry Christmas for two members of the Community, Richard (QLD) and Trudy (Austria) who are, like Jessica, alone tonight. You won't be lonely, as your fellow bloggers are sharing their emotions and thoughts with you.

And come on, Kaleen, you go girl (read that somewhere?). Nowadays, cataract surgery is not really a problem. You can overcome it! Think of Jesse, put your chin up and the achievement will come. We have a great teacher, don't we?

By the way, thank you Jesse, for having created, not by will but by your skills and your natural shining personality, such a warm, friendly and loving bunch. You're precious to all of us.

Merry Christmas to you Jess. I enjoyed watching your most recent video. You look quite bubbly and happy in it which is good to see.
We will be eagerly waiting to hear about what goodies Santa has brought to you and what treats you enjoyed eating on Christmas day.

It is raining a little here in Hervey Bay, hopefully my kitchen will not be like an oven once I start cooking the roast.

Smooth sailing, safe travels as always.

Hi Jessica, I do hope that you have a lovely and safe Christmas Day. No doubt you will be missing your family and friends so much today, but I am sure that they will be with you in spirit. Let's hope tht you can speak with them by satellite phone or Skype (or whatever communication system you are using).

The weather here on the Sunshine Coast is very humid. We have had a couple of drops of rain but that is about it.

I am sure that Santa will have found you by now and I hope that all of the pressies that you receive all help that strong will of yours to keep going with your very brave and exciting trip. You certainly did well to fix the electrical problems that you had a day or so ago.

Take care,

Bern in Caloundra Q

Hello Jessica,
You have contributed so much to our knowledge; forcing us non-sailors to learn more about sailing, the oceans, currents, winds, birds as well as what it takes to manage a sailboat in the beautiful blue Pacific.
Just like to wish you a very Happy Christmas out there in the
middle of Point Nemo.
Be sure to stay alert and you'll be fine.

Hi Jesse,
So busy last night with making the sauces etc I didn't get to check to see if you had blogged. I was really surprised to see this afternoon that you had not only blogged you had also done your Christmas video. You are amazing. I would have made us all wait! I really didn't expect to hear from you again until tomorrow. So thank you very much. I hope your Christmas dinner didn't seem too lonely. Where I live in Bundanoon it's been a bit like your weather, the lovely mist rolled in just as we were sitting down to eat our christmas meal. And at least it was cool, and not hot and sticky as we have been having.

It's amazing that you're still having enough wind to keep moving in that fog. Do you have your thermals on yet?

I'm glad Santa was able to find you. Those reindeer are really amazing aren't they? Did they make much noise landing on the deck? I hope they didn't get caught on the anchor chain or something!

Still wishing fair winds for you, and I hope that fog rolls back before you get into iceberg land.

Best wishes
Toni

Happy Crimbo Jesse - Santa knows exactly where you are and he is definitely going to drop off prezzies today (and maybe the odd flying fish). Well I don't know, after the stress of cooking and looking after kids and extended family all day I reckon you're in a pretty good position, right there on Point Nemo - on your tod. Have a sublime Christmas, and may the waves offer extra shine for you today.

Merry Christmas Jessica. I can feel Ella slipping and sliding down in the ocean, and it sounds good. Another landmark reached - Point Nemo. I'm learning a lot from your blog, didn't know about Point Nemo before, and will look it up on my pocket Times Atlas when I find it. I'm in a mess here from Christmas. We had 12 family here. It was terrific. Cooked a glazed ham, roast turkey, poached whole ocean trout and vegies. Followed by an ice cream pudding. You can look forward to this next Christmas. It's now hot and humid in Brisbane, my husband is on the golf course, my daughter and boyfriend have gone out for Boxing Day visiting and I'm about to go on my "long walk" - I walk around my suburb as fast as I can for an hour. It's great exercise. Happy sailing for now.

Hi Jess,

i think sailing would be better than worrying about working my arse off to pay bills, that seem to come when i have no money. also i drive an old car that is worth $500, but is going to cost $2,000 to make police worthy (it's road worthy, but not according to the police). i like my old car, i use it now and again, i don't want to part with it, but my friends are telling me to get a new one. i only work part time, so i don't have the money for a new one. i'm ok with public transport, but a car is good to have for emergency long distance travel.

anyway sail well

James o
