Thank You From Mum

Hi everyone. I know you are all anxious to hear from Jess, but she's a little pre-occupied on her first day, so just a quick post to let everyone know that the departure went well this morning, officially passing the start/finish line at Sydney Heads at 9.49am. On behalf of all of our family, I would like to sincerely thank all those wonderful people who came out on the Harbour this morning and down to the marina to wish Jess well. The positive messages of support from not only Australia, but all around the world, has just been overwhelming and we are most grateful. I am sure you will hear from Jess soon.

You rock Jess, don't let anyone tell you that you cannot do what you want to do in life. I'm an old 64- -year-old sick man that knows you will do fine Jess.
At the end of you days, you want to regret all the things you have done, not regret all the things "you have not done." G-d is an adventurer just like you Jess. It's just one fun day of sailing every day.

Hi Jessica!
You are living my dream from many years ago. I have been around the world on many large ships but I have always wanted to do an ocean crossing on my own boat. I have sailed on a 33 footer between England and Sweden but that is like a walk across the street (and about as dangerous as that). I wish you all the best on your journey.

I just happened across your site on the day you left Sydney. Wow! Years ago, I read Robin Lee Graham's account of his round the world sail and was very inspired. I just want to give you an Irish blessing for your trip though I am not Irish. I changed the words slightly to fit your journey.

May the waves rise with you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face.
May the rain fall softly on your sails.
Until we meet again, May God hold you in the hollow of his hands.

You are a true heroine on a heroes journey (Joseph Campbell).

Blessings on your journey and Godspeed.

To Julie,
Letting Jess realise her dreams is crucial. I believe that you could/would do more damage to your children by squashing their dreams and removing their thirst for life.
I'm disgusted at the medais potrayal of the last few weeks. The "Australian' spirit used to be back one of our own especially if on the world stage and unfortunatley, this has not been the case.
I have done many blue water ocean races up and done the east coast and know the challenges ahead, but that is the whole point of this. The challenges ahead. Or would the press/nay syaers prefer that Jess sits at home, complains that she has not been handed enought yet, bully someone on facce book and play with drugs. or lead the field. When she is back, I'm keen to follow the critics in the press then and see what they do.
Congratulations on raising such a wonderfully couragous and intelligent girl. I will be following her blog throughout.

I know you have your IPOD ......I found music became my friend. I also found books were another wonderful escape into another world and come to think of it cooking also was a fun chore. Add to that your radio skeds, navigation and sail changes and the eight months will fly by. God speed Jessica and I hope we meet up one day . cheers Michael Kelly

Good Luck Jessica!

jessi, you are a great inspiration to all young people, especially to yourself, and try to remember, that this is and can be the greatest challenge to you and many more to come.
you must have the greatest faith in yourself and no matter how hard the sailing will be, just remember there are reasons for everything and i am going to keep supporting you all the way, so go girl as they say the word is your oyster good luck

Best wishes Jess we look forward to viewing your progress on the net. Those who live the dream are an inspiration to others

All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds, wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act on their dreams with open eyes, to make them possible.

Go Jess. I was certainly quite independent at 16 but my achievements at that age pale into insignificance beside yours. well done for daring to dream.

Good luck on your voyage Jessica. An Irish prayer for you.... The Murray Family, Birmingham, AL:

May God give you...
For every storm, a rainbow,
For every tear, a smile,
For every care, a promise,
And a blessing in each trial.
For every problem life sends,
A faithful friend to share,
For every sigh, a sweet song,
And an answer for each prayer.

With all the bad news covered by the media these days and all the suspicion that is levelled by journalists at their "targets", along comes a breath of fresh air "feel good" story about a true adventurer. The world we know today would not be as it is if not for those individuals who pushed themselves and their boundaries, on land, in space and over the seas. Jessica is an inspiration and her age should not be the issue. She's not vegging out on the couch watching re-runs of Seinfeld, she's not wasting her time on MSN or Facebook or in front of her PS3. She's living life the way so many of us are either unable or unwilling to - by facing challenges head on and saying "why not?". I applaud her attitude and that of her family. It will be a tough 8 months but, from everything I've seen of Jessica in the lead-up to this adventure, I reckon she'll rise to the challenge. Just getting out the Heads of Sydney Harbour was already a victory. Good luck Jessica - the doubters will welcome you back when you return and will celebrate with you. Who knows, there's "our Miranda", "our Cate", our Olivia" - you might be the next "our" to come along...

I love and live by the Mark Twain quote you used. I bought and sailed/motoered my boat (the Hook)from Perth to Townsville 5 years ago despite the nay sayers. It was a highlight of my life - and I did it with my 17 year old son as my crew. With your skills and a little luck, you can do this mighty thing you have undertaken. The Daviesd family will be watching and praying for you from Townsville.
