Rest, Relaxing and Reading

After some pretty interrupted sleep lately, this morning my head felt a lot like it was full of cotton wool. So I've pretty much spent most of the day in my bunk reading and dozing, popping my head out the companionway to keep a look out and to tweak the sails. All the R&R today has left me feeling a lot better, so I'm full of energy again this evening, playing music and sitting up on deck watching all the shades of grey turn to pink and orange.
No sunshine at all today so we're a bit down on power but progress has been reasonable. We've had a pretty consistent of south easterly so Ella's Pink Lady has been slipping along nicely under full sail. A few people have been commenting on how it must be nice to have other yachts around every once and a while but I can't say I really feel like that. Sure it was nice to chat to them over the radio, to find out where they'd come from and where they are heading to, but I can only really be comfortable when Ella's Pink Lady and I have the ocean completely to ourselves. Every time a bit of land pops up on the chart it weighs on my mind and almost feels a little claustrophobic!
The forecast is for more of the same weather for the next few days. Then as we keep heading north we should start seeing some tropical squalls. I'm starting to see more and more flying fish jump out of the water and am really starting to tick off the miles till reaching the equator.
That's it for today because my tummy is telling me that it's time to go cook up something up for dinner. I'm thinking tacos (or maybe I should call them nachos, as they are a bit crushed up!) with freeze dried mince, tinned tomato and tinned capsicum.

Hi Jess,

We're loving all your updates. You are very much a part of our daily class routine at school. We're loving the tracker now and plotting your progress on our own map. There's so much to learn from your adventure that we can match up with our curriculum, our days are never dull. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Safe sailing,

HiJesse, you are certainly proving yourself as a real allrounder,i can taste those 'cupcakes" from here.(Sydney/Friday 1.27pm)You are powering along in fine style, and inspiring a lot of people in the process.Keep up your strength, eat well, sleep well.
Stay "clipped on"at all times, make sure when you are running with the big waves behind you that you are not carrying too much sail, and this will help to avoid Pink Lady "broaching".Have a good day Jesse,God Bless Dougal.

YOU CAN DO IT JESSICA WATSON !!! said...

Hi There Jesse,

Sounds like a great day you've had today. I'm becoming more impressed with your enthusiasm every time I read your Blogs. It must be very strange being out on your own for days and then being surrounded by other boats & yachts. It would really keep you on your toes making sure that they don't get too close or collide with you. Although, I suppose the company helps you from becoming totally bored: Not that I can imagine YOU Getting Bored ... LOL ... you seem like you could never get bored. You must be looking forward to reaching the Equator. It's Great to have the new Tracking System on your Website, Jesse. We'll be able to track you properly now; it will feel like we are out there with you.

Anyway TEENAGE SAILOR JESSICA WATSON . . .

Dear Jessica, I am full of admiration for your strength of character. I sail too from Adelaide & have only been brave enough to sail the gulfs between here and Kangaroo Island. Would love to go where you are but am a little scared of storms & huge seas. What equipment do you carry to deal with this and how would you rig it alone? Or do you just heave to & hunker down?
Wishing you smooth sailing and tight lines,
Tina

i have been checking your blog every day. i am glad you r getting along nicely. you r very brave and i would never be able to do this because of fright and seasickness. i have a question though, have you seen a shark? if not, are you afraid of seeing one?
